Bastard
Bastard
Review:
I have been reading anime reviews on the net for a while and people keep
saying that Bastard was a good OVA and had tons of heavy metal references
and how it had a sense of humor. While others said it wasn’t that good or
its like watching DBZ in medieval times. So I thought why not check it out
for myself. When I rented it at a local video store I went home and watch
the 6 OVA. Well just read what I thought.
Bastard! Takes place in an alternate universe like Dungeons and Dragons.
Dark Schneider wanted to rule the world but was sealed in a baby named Rushe.
Well 15 years later a girl named Yoko takes care of Rushe and the Kingdom
Meta Rikana (Some metal reference) summons Dark Schneider so he can destroy
Ansla Sax (Metal band Anthrax). Dark Schneider has powers and spells he uses
to destroy demons on his quest. Well this basically is the story of Bastard!
The only good character of the story is Dark Schneider. He is the only
character that has a personality throughout the show. All the other
characters seem dull or wimpy. Dark Schneider is very funny and is a good
fighter. Though the rest of the cast just did not seem to be in place. The
problem with the series was the fighting. It is what took up the entire
show. Like DBZ, the concept of the show was “oh your strong, but I can do
better and kill with one blast!” yep that Bastard all right. The animation
was okay, it’s your typical nineties style. The acting was not that great
because they did not go well with characters personality. Though I was
disappointed at the end because it did not conclude anything, I would have
like to see it end on a good note. I thought after watching Bastard! What
was so good about it? Dark Schneider character, but everything else sucked.
Luckily Pioneer (or Geneon they liked to be called) has released all 6
episodes on one DVD. Overall if you enjoy DBZ or good Fighting, then Bastard
is for you. If you want a good plot and good character development, then
stay away from this one
Note: At the end of the last episode, pass the credits and it will show
Dark Schneider sitting on top of a mountain. A message will appear and say,
“Dark Schneider will return”
Contains: Language, nudity, blood and violence. Recommended for ages 17+
Final Grade: D +
